MILGARD’s AX650 Moving Glass Wall System connects the home’s living space with outdoor areas.

MILGARD® Windows and Doors, part of the MITER Brands portfolio, was the window and door brand of choice for the recently revealed 2025 Northwest Idea House. In partnership with Zetterberg Custom Homes, South Sound magazine’s Idea House brought together the design leadership of Greg Zetterberg and the construction expertise of Jeff Zetterberg. Located in Gig Harbor, WA, the 5,428-square-foot project highlights contemporary Northwest architecture, emphasizing sunlight and modern design.

The design team required windows and doors that would elevate the home’s modern mountain-resort feel and create seamless indoor-outdoor connections. MILGARD’s products suited the aesthetic perfectly and were available in an expansive selection of window configurations.

“Regional Northwest architecture is characterized by the use of natural wood, large glass walls, and low-pitched or flat roofs,” explained Greg Zetterberg. “This allows the home to integrate with its landscape and bring natural light into the spaces while protecting them from the elements.”

MILGARD’s V400 Tuscany Series® vinyl windows in casement, horizontal slider, and picture window configurations were installed throughout the home. Oversized picture windows in the living areas bring abundant light throughout the interior of the home.

For large openings that seamlessly transitioned to the home’s outdoor spaces, the Zetterberg team specified MILGARD’s AX650 Moving Glass Wall System. The AX650’s sliding patio doors provide a sleek, contemporary aesthetic and connect the home’s main living space to its three distinct outdoor areas: an entertainment patio with an outdoor kitchen, a patio overlooking a sports court, and a lower-level pool and spa.

Performance was also a key driver in product selection. The homeowners and Zetterberg Builders prioritized energy efficiency, structural integrity, and long-term durability appropriate for Northwest conditions. The V400 Tuscany Series offers energy-efficient glass and enhanced insulation for cold climates, while AX650 doors deliver structural strength and resist harsh weather, balancing large spans of glass with reliable thermal performance and weather resistance.

“MILGARD brings a regional legacy to the project,” said Anthony Scales, Director of Sales – Northwest, at MILGARD Windows and Doors. “Founded in the Pacific Northwest in 1958, the brand has built a reputation for quality manufacturing, service, and community involvement. Additionally, for homeowners, MILGARD provides peace of mind through an industry-leading warranty and support from a local service team.”

The home’s design called for dark, modern frames to complement the exterior and architectural details. MILGARD’s black window and door frames enhance curb appeal by creating a sharp visual contrast with the home’s mixed materials and reinforcing the home’s clean, modern lines.
