Army veteran Harber thrives in management role at MITER Brands

TACOMA, WA. – A former Army Ranger, veteran Gary Harber credits his military background for his success at Milgard Windows and Doors, a MITER Brands™ company.

Harber, who served in the Army for seven years, is currently the Distribution Manager at Milgard Windows and Doors in Tacoma, Washington.

“I come from a combat arms background in the military,” says Harber, who recently sat down for an interview in recognition of Veterans Day. “I ran, planned, executed, and oversaw combat and reconnaissance operations. That engaged leadership paired with data analysis has been helpful in setting me up for success at my job.”

Growing up in different regions around the world – he spent parts of his childhood in South Korea, Thailand, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, and Virginia – Harber always knew that he’d join the military. Not only is he the son of a career military man, but every generation of his family has served in the U.S. armed forces since the Revolutionary War.

Once he signed up in 2011, Harber wanted to take on a leadership role, which is why he went to Army Ranger School before serving in the Pacific theater. At Army Ranger School, he learned how important it is for organizations to give their leaders the freedom to make their own decisions. He’s grateful that he’s been allotted this freedom at MITER Brands, where he oversees the company’s distribution operations for the western United States.

“MITER Brands has been great because they’ve allowed me to be authentic and I have been provided the latitude to run my department how I see fit,” he says. “I have been empowered to drive change.”
